It is assumed that both hybrid knotweeds are in New Zealand: Reynoutria ×moravica and Reynoutria ×bohemica. Reynoutria ×bohemica (R. japonica× sachalinensis) has spots on the stems and no purple leaf margins while Reynoutria ×moravica (R. compacta × sachalinensis has no spots but purple leaf margins.
