Family placement: here follows Bryophyte Nomenclator and placed in Neckeraceae. However, Wynns, in the protologue says: "Longiella belongs to a clade that includes Homalia Brid., Neckera Hedw. and Dacryophyllum Ireland. The sum of the genetic and morphological evidence suggests that Longiella represents a distinct hypnalean lineage related to both Taxiphyllum and the Neckeraceae"
