The species epithet was orginally spelled "durvillei", which is the correct spelling following article 60.13. and if an apostrophe had been used then the following would have applied: "The use of an apostrophe or quotation mark in an epithet is treated as an error to be corrected by deletion of the apostrophe or quotation mark". Babington (1855) 'corrected" durvillei to D'Urvillei, and others omitted the 'd'' entirely, spelling the epithet as "urvillei". The latter is followed in Mycobank (Feb 2024). Nylander (1860) used "Urvillei" (Synopsis methodica Lichenum, p. 360)

The species epithet was spelled 'durvillei' by Delise in the protologue, but since 'then it has been spelled as 'D'Urvillei' (eg. by Babington 1855), and as 'Urvillei' (eg. by Nylander 1860). the subspecific taxa were described under various spelling combinations.

The current name, according to Index Fungorum, is Yarrumia coronata, but the synonymy has not been seen for dataentry in this database.
