Jiménez et al. in Journal of Systematics and Evolution March 2021, shifted 5 of the New Zealand taxa to other genera, but did not mention Didymodon ceratodonteus in their analysis. Thus, despite Jiménez et al (2021) stating "Didymodon s.s. is mainly a Holarctic genus", it needs to be retained here until the remaining species is resolved.
