From the Greek mikros (small), and soros (sorus), a reference to the small size of the sori.
Lectotype (selected by Tindale 1957): Nova Hollandia [Australia], F.W. Sieber, Syn Fil. 101, L 908, 335.846 (n.v.). The specimen was originally cited as “isolectotype” by Tindale, but this is correctable to lectotype under Art. 9.10 (Field 2020).
