Rhacocarpus Lindb.
genus
Rhacocarpus
The generic name (Greek rhako-karpos) means “frayed seed”; according to Meagher (2011) it “presumably [alludes] to the raggedly split base of the calyptra”. The calyptrae in N.Z. material are not frayed at the base, and hence the name does not seem particularly apt.
