Chapman’s name [Curdiea flabellata] is however invalid because it is not accompanied by a Latin description or diagnosis, and does not refer to a previously valid name, and both of the names cited as synonyms (Curdiea coriacea (Hook.f. & Harv.) J.Agardh and Sphaerococcus coriaceus (Hook. f. & Harv.) Kütz.) refer to another type (Rhodymenia? coriacea).
