Notes
editorial
H. decurrens and H. sericea are very similar and have often been confused both in Australia and elsewhere. The specimens found in New Zealand are most likely H. decurrens subsp. physocarpa. To distinguish Hakea decurrens from Hakea sericea flowering material is needed: length of the pistil >8.5 mm = Hakea decurrens; length of the pistil <7.5 mm = Hakea sericea. The subspecies can only be identified with the fruit. (pers. com. Arthur Chapman; also see https://inaturalist.nz/observations/55678808 and https://inaturalist.nz/observations/83464429). Some accessioned herbarium material at CHR is clearly Hakea sericea based on measurements of the pistils.
