Myosotis hikuwai
The epithet hikuwai refers to the Hikuwai Conservation Area where the only known population of this plant is from, and was considered to be an appropriate name for the new species by our Ngāi Tahu contacts in the relevant rohe (region). In te reo Māori, hikuwai means ‘source of a stream’ (Williams 1957) and may refer to the source of the Clutha River / Mata-Au.
