The epithet membranata refers to the presence of a preperistome “formed by a somewhat irregular, slightly striated membrane sometimes reaching as high as the middle of the teeth” (Malta 1933, p. 18).
Holotype: Tasmania, West Coast, Comet-Dundas Road, on wood, 17 Oct. 1893, W.A. Weymouth 1652, H-Brotherus 4336011! Isotype: HO 71928!
