There is a proposal to conserve the name Kaempferia rotunda L. with a conserved type. "For nearly 200 years, the name Kaempferia rotunda has been applied to a species with inflorescences arising from the rhizome before the leaves and on a separate shoot, yet the only original material depicts a species with its florescence terminal on a leafy shoot. [...] The diagnosis of Kaempferia rotunda, “foliis lanceolatis petiolatis”, contrasts it with the other species in Linnaeus’s Species plantarum of 1753, K. galanga L., which has “foliis ovatis sessilibus”. [...] There is no mention of the inflorescence position under either species. ability to take it up now. [...] To maintain stability in nomenclature, we propose to conserve the name Kaempferia rotunda L. with a new type representing the species known by this name."
