Notes
editorial
We are aware that POWO is currently using the name Elodea densa. According to their website, this choice follows a 2021 Spanish publication on alien species (https://dx.doi.org/10.5209/bocm.75354
). However, this seems like an unusual source to base such a taxonomic decision on, particularly as the paper provides no supporting rationale for the change.
For our purposes, we prefer to continue using Egeria densa, as this remains the more widely recognised and familiar name within the scientific community, especially in New Zealand. It is also the name adopted in most floras, databases, and management plans, which ensures consistency and helps to avoid unnecessary confusion.
