Specimens examined. NEW ZEALAND. PALMERSTON NORTH: Manawatu, from Lolium multiflorum cv. Maverick, Apr. 1998, M. J. Christensen (HOLOTYPE CUP 64946). Lm2 from Lolium multiflorum cv. Maverick, Lrrl and Lrr2 from L. rigidum var. rigidum, Lrol from L. rigidum var. rottboellioides, Oct. 1998, M. J. Christensen.
Vegetative hyphae 1-2 µm wide, infrequently branched, highly convoluted and bunched, residing in apoplast of nodal tissue, lower leaf sheath (1-2 mm), and inflorescence tissue of host. External state on host not observed. Colony diam 1-3 mm after 4 mo at 22 C on PDA. Colonies requiring contact with host tissue on PDA, not subculturable on PDA. Colonies off-white to tan, raised from the agar surface in globular morphology, convoluted, lacking aerial mycelium. Sporulation in culture not observed.
Hyphae vegetativae 1-2, sparse ramosae, maxi-me convolutae et contiguae, intercellulares, texturam noduli, vaginam folii inferioriem (1-2 mm) et inflorescentiam hospitis inhabitantes. Status externus in hospite non observatus. Coloniae 1-3 mm diametro aetate 4 mensuim ad 22 C, albae vel eburneae, convolutae, mycelio aerio nullo. Conidia in cultura non observata.
