Political Region
Amorphotheca resinae [the creosote fungus] (as ‘Cladosporium resinae’) was first recorded in the New Zealand environment in November 1969 from garden soil in Wellington, near a creosoted fowl house. (Sheridan and Knox, 1970), although specimen PDD 33944 from plastic in Auckland dates from August 1968. However, the name Cladosporium resinae was often confused and is now a synonym of a different fungus Sorocybe resinae = Hormodendrum resinae [the resin fungus]. Sequences of ICMP cultures deposited by Sheridan are confirmed to match those of Amorphotheca resinae. [BSW, September 2019]
