Allan Fife regarded Neckera brownii Dixon as a synonym of Neckera laevigata Hook.f. & Wilson (Fife, 1995). However, Olsson et all (2011) placed N. brownii in their new genus Alleniella as A. brownii. However, in the New Zealand context, Allan Fife's synonymy has been retained, thus Neckera brownii is here regarded as a synonym of Alleniella laevigata (Hook.f. & Wilson) Enroth.
