species
Orthotrichum tenue
The epithet tenue means slender and presumably refers to the overall appearance of the plants in relation to species of Orthotrichum (the genus in which it was originally described). The obsolete epithet eucalyptorum can be loosely translated as “completely enclosed by the calyptra” and seems particularly apt, but unfortunately it is a synonymized name for this distinctive species.
Lectotype: South Africa. (Designated by Vitt 1980a.) Not seen.
