Phascum splachnoides
The epithet splachnoides (resembling Splachnum) is presumably based on the presence of an apophysis at the base of the theca. The apophysis is noted in the protologue (Hornschuch 1820), and the adjacent species illustration is of Splachnum adamsianum sp. nov., with an even more prominent apophysis.
