Engel & Glenny (2008) followed the treatment of Schuster (1996) for their flora treatment of the genus [Cephaloziella]. Their classification is followed here, other than for Cephaloziella byssacea (Roth) Warnst. which has been placed in the synonymy of Cephaloziella divaricata (Sm.) Schiffn. (Karttunen, 1993),
