The epithet bryonoma means ‘dwelling in moss’ and derived from the Greek words bryon (moss) and nomos (place or condition for living), referring to the mossy habitats where plants of this species are found.
Type: New Zealand: South Island: Otago, Garvie Mountains, east of Lake Laura, 1524 m ASL, 11 Jan 2016, H.M. Meudt & A. Kusabs HMM411 (holo: WELT SP104478†).
