Erysiphe cruciferarum s. lat. can be classified into three distinct species: E. cruciferarum s. str. (on Alyssum spp. and Berteroa incana, tribe Alysseae), a plurivorous species designated as E. radulescui, and a specialised species exclusively associated with Alliaria petiolate, described as E. alliariicola.
