Lachnaceae gen. 1 on Weinmannia twig (PDD 93937). Known from a single, small specimen in poor condition, a multi-gene analysis shows this fungus to be phylogenetically isolated within Lachnaceae (Johnston & Park 2025). The closest ITS BLAST match to a GenBank accession is 90%.

Lachnaceae gen. 2 on Nothofagus wood (PDD 60116, 81734, 116694, 119482, 119495, 122802). This clade includes several specimens from New Zealand and in the ITS phylogeny is sister to a species from Australia, both species on dead Nothofagus wood (Johnston 2023–2024). BLAST searches using ITS suggest the clade matches no existing genus with sequence data available. The hairs are long, flexuous, appressed to surface of the receptacle, so barely visible macroscopically. In most specimens of the New Zealand species the hairs have largely been lost (e.g. https://scd.landcareresearch.co.nz/Specimen/PDD_122802), but are seen clearly in PDD 119495 (https://scd.landcareresearch.co.nz/Specimen/PDD_119495). The Australian species differs in having rough-walled hairs, but otherwise is similar anatomically, with hairs largely appressed to the receptacle surface and having a gelatinous excipulum (e.g. https://scd.landcareresearch.co.nz/Specimen/PDD_116692).

Lachnaceae gen. 3 on Carex leaves (PDD 61822). Morphologically, this is a Lachnum-like species with small, white, concolorous apothecia, lanceolate paraphyses and short, stiff hairs with thin, rough walls. Only ITS sequences are available, with no close BLAST match in GenBank.

Lachnaceae gen. 4 on Nothofagus wood (PDD 82928, 110298). Two specimens with white concolorous hairy apothecia with short stipes, collected from dead wood in Nothofagus forests, one from the North Island, one from the South Island. Morphologically this species has short stiff hairs, mostly rough walled but slightly swollen and smooth at the apex, lanceolate paraphyses, excipular cells short-cylindric, hyaline, with thickened walls. Only ITS sequences are available, with a sister relationship with a Norwegian specimen identified as ‘Lachnum’ rhytismatis (GenBank AJ430220, voucher ARON3186.H) (Fig. S1).
