Discosia sp. was isolated from several leaf spots and it is not clear how this fungus contributed to the disease symptoms. A black spot on Japanese persimmon caused by Adisciso kaki is genetically close to D. aquatica, but morphologically distinct. This is the first report of D. aquatica in NZ. It is unknown how and when the fungus arrived here.
M. nawae is known to cause circular leaf spot of persimmons which can lead to early defoliation. This pathogen is also associated with early fruit maturation and premature fruit drop that results in significant decreases in productivity and quality overseas, e.g. in Korea. M. nawae has been reported from Japan and Spain, and possibly in Australia (as Mycosphaerella sp.) This is the first report of D. nawae in NZ. It is unknown how and when the fungus arrived here.
